What’s your favorite sweetener? Pink, Yellow, Blue, White or Brown?

sugar substitutes: pink, yellow, blue, white, brownIs it sugar or a sugar substitute you enjoy? I’m not a fan of Aspartame found in NutraSweet and Equal, even though the FDA stands by its findings. There is a controversy around Sweet & Low and the substance saccharin. Are these substitutes good or evil?

There’s
saccharin, aspartame, sucralose, neotame and acesulfame potassium. Whew so many choices to sweeten my coffee and tea. I don’t consume soda, diet or otherwise. I’ve never been a fan of diet foods. I like a good piece of gum, but stopped after I had an asthmatic episode from Dentyne. I personally blame it on Aspartame.

I actually like
SweetLeaf Stevia, which is headquartered in Gilbert, AZ. Though I’m a lazy consumer if it’s not in my nearby local grocer I won’t go out of my way to find it. With the prices of gas I’ll take my chance with Splenda. In a pinch I will use sugar. I don’t use sugar in an obsessed way just one teaspoon will sweeten by coffee or tea nicely.

I'll take any of them really - I mean I think they're all safe if you eat them as they're supposed to be - in moderation. I guess I'd go with aspartame since it's in some other stuff I eat (yogurt, etc.) and I know it sits well with me. :D

Stevia is the best stuff for you. It's the only natural one (it's an herb) and has absolutely no chemicals.... if only the FDA didn't have a inexplicable vendetta against it, it'd be more widely used than the faux-sweeteners!

I agree about the stevia, the more natural the better in my eyes. You mentioned SweetLeaf stevia, that is the best brand i have found, I love the added fiber in the steviaplus, and the dark chocolate liquid stevia, a few drops in my plain organic yogurt with fresh strawberries on top....to live for:)! My vote is for stevia all the way!

SweetLeaf also just came out with a new product called SweetLeaf Sweetener. I've been using it's other products for awhile and I love them! But this new sweetener takes the cake because you can add it to recipes, drinks and anything else you can think of. I usually add filler substances to recipes though to keep the volume of the recipe the same - usually mashed bananas or yogurt. The new product is in stores now too which is really convenient. As a bonus, the sweetener has no calories, no carbs and no glycemic index but is totally natural.

Also, I stumbled across these YouTube videos if anyone wants to check them out for more info:

I love SweetLeaf. If you want to try a sample before buying it-- Just send in two packets of ANY sweetener you use and they’ll send you two packets of SweetLeaf to try. The address to mail it to is:

It's also becoming more readily available in grocery stores.

Stevia-based sweeteners have been used in Japan since the 1970s – ever since that country banned artificial sweeteners. To this date, after being used by tens of millions of people for more than 40 years, there has not been a single consumer complaint about Stevia.

For the person who may not know where to get SeetLeaf stevia, you should be able to get at Whole Foods. . .maybe at your grocer. Also see what you think about their chocolate flavored liquid stevia. See if it tastes like chocolate milk!
