Saturday, June 18, 2003 – LA, The*Party @ The*Space a great event put together by BIG/Ogilvy, amaula, The_Groop, Mobile Monday, Orange22, Producers Guild of America, The*SPACE, and Oshyn. After an hour of smoozing and chatting-up, I needed some nosh. As I was digging into the vegetable platter, I met Bill Cameron, Sr. VP Strategic Alliance ExpoMarketing Group. As I was milling around the food table I heard a rumor that famed Razorfish CEO Jeff Dachis was going to show up, to talk about his new project–the Producers Guild of America–but his beautiful baby girl took priority. I wondered where in the world is Craig Karanick?
On to the chocolate portion of the food table where Mark Jeffrey was standing. I had some very good chocolate covered almonds and chocolate chip cookies. As I dug in for another chocolate chip cookie, Mark Jeffrey sang me the “Piggie Song”. We laughed at ourselves and over old times. A flashback crossed my mind to the very first WWWAC/New Media Holiday party 1995. That’s where I first met the Razorfish boys, literally by accident, when Craig pushed Jeff into me knocking me over onto Mark Jeffrey. I remember Mark said to me “that’s the new form of hair pulling.”
Now, speaking of great track records for both stars and dogs. Mark’s most recent success is “The Pocket and The Pendant”. He not only self published, but he’s also podcasting it, and rumors have it he’s in the middle of a possible deal for a TV series. Bravo and well done, Mark! But you know what they say behind every successful man there is a team of amazing women with deep rolodexes willing to champion him. Mark’s success has been through the encouragement and word-of-mouth of Christine Harmel, Courtney Pulitzer, and me, Tery Spataro.
The*Party got into full swing after speeches by Jose Caballer, CEO and Creative Director of The_Groop, and Conn Fishburn, General Manager of BIG. This event promises score of business relationships. Over all the combination of energy and spark of new entrepreneurial blood will breathe life into new opportunities and this is the event to seek them out.
Sunday morning brunch was excellent at the Westin’s Bonaventure! I love staying there!
